Breckenridge
What is more therapeutic than sunshine, clean air, and the outdoors? Breckenridge has more of that than most anywhere in the world, being that on average it has 300 days of sun a year. This is a 148 year old charming Victorian town nestled in the Rocky Mountains. Outdoor enthusiasts flock here from around the world to enjoy the world renound ski resort and come back in the summer to golf at one of the only public Jack Nickolaus courses around. Here, you can't hold back, hike, bike, fish, snowmobile or attend the plentiful festivals.
A Bit of History
People began settling the Breckenridge area during the Pikes Peak Gold Rush of 1859. The mining there accounted for the production of nearly 31,000 kilograms of gold. Even though most of the mines are shut down, you can run in to an old mine shaft, or mine trailings on a hike through the woods. There are also some that are open for touring.
Statistics
The town sits at 9600 feet above sea level, giving it a unique climate. The average high and low in the summer are 73 and 39 respectively, and 31 and o respectively in the dead of winter. Record high and low are 89 and -46. On average, Breckenridge receives in excess of 300 inches of snowfall a year, one of the highlights of the ski resorts along with it's infamous terrain parks.
